Acclaimed Music Composer Todd Barton Speaks at Hannon Library

Todd Barton, Resident Composer and Music Director for the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, presents “COMPOSERSPEAK: Breath, Heart, Words, Music,” at Hannon Library, March 3, 2011 at 4 p.m. in the Meese Meeting Room (#305). Barton describes the talk as “free-form romp through the things I’ve learned being a composer for the theatre for 40 years.” This free event is part of the Friends of Hannon Library’s 2010-2011 Library Lecture Series.
Todd Barton is an award-winning composer and director. He has been composing at the Oregon Shakespeare Festival since the Angus Bowmer/Jerry Turner days. His compositions have been performed by the KRONOS Quartet, Oregon Symphony Orchestra, San Jose Chamber Orchestra, Southern Oregon Repertory Singers, Shasta Taiko, and the Rogue Valley Symphony. Barton is an instructor at Southern Oregon University. His work and scholarship reach in many directions, from Zen Shakuhachi Meditation Music to avante-garde, computer-based music.
The Friends of Hannon Library is a community-based organization dedicated to the growth and development of the Library’s resources and services while also fostering beneficial relations with the residents of the region. The Friends’ annual lecture series provides an active forum for all people interested in books, libraries, and scholarly pursuits.
