New Novel of Mystery and Magic in the Azores, by an Ashland Author, Praised by Reviewers (Ashland, Ore.)   A newly published 411-page mystery interlaced with poetry, legend, lyrical beauty, enchantment, and historical intrigue is receiving accolades from reviewers. The Undiscovered Island, which is set in the Azores, 930 miles off the coast of Portugal, was published by the University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth Center for Portuguese Studies and Culture. The author, Darrell Kastin, is an Ashland resident of Azorean descent whose experiences include extended stays on the islands.

To showcase this important new book, Southern Oregon University’s Hannon Library will present a free program with Darrell Kastin on Thursday, February 4, at 4 pm in the Meese Meeting Room. The program will include readings from The Undiscovered Island and performance of Portuguese music composed by Kastin.

The novel has received high praise from Gregory Rabassa, translator of One Hundred Years of Solitude, who calls the book “…a romp of detective story, epic, and family quest. What a great read!”
