Digital Conversion of Remote Translator Sites

Posted By admin On June 21, 2011 @ 11:00 pm In All,Announcements,Local | No Comments

During the summer months of 2011, SOPTV will be working on completing its transition to digital transmission. This will manifest itself with the conversion of our TV translator systems to digital. Viewers will need to have DTV sets or DTV set top boxes for older analog TV sets to continue to receive SOPTV in these areas.

Because this work is strongly influenced by weather conditions, and in some cases, delivery of equipment, we do not have an exact schedule for each site. We can estimate some time frames and the most likely order of the transition by site. Site work and digital TV operation may occur before the noted dates. The details:

  • Prospect: Completion expected by July 1. Conversion to digital will result in digital channel 8 broadcast over the air on channel 2.
  • Pinehurst: Completion expected byJuly 15. Conversion to digital will result in digital 8 broadcast over the air on channel 13.
  • Ruch/Applegate: Completion expected by July 22. Conversion to digital will result in digital 8 broadcast over the air on channel 13.
  • Shady Cove: Completion expected by July 29. Conversion to digital will result in digital 8 broadcast over the air on channel 13.
  • Gold Hill: Completion expected by August 5. Conversion to digital will result in digital 8 broadcast over the air on channel 27. This is a channel change!
  • Brookings: Completion expected by August 12. Conversion to digital will result in digital 8 broadcast over the air on channel 15. This is a channel change!
  • Williams: Completion expected by August 26. Conversion to digital will result in digital 8 broadcast over the air on channel 2. This facility is moving to a new site, Bluey mountain, about 6 miles NORTH of Williams. This change will likely require adjustment of your outdoor antenna system to accommodate our site change. We moved the site because of primary power limitations of the old site, and the historically very poor reliability of operations there.
