i was in attendance at the april tea party/ occupy meeting. although i'm a strong advocate for civil debate, i'm not fond of trying to 'get along' with the people who are responsible for the regulatory mess here in oregon. liberal ideology in politics has devastated our economy especially in resource based industries. i've seen countless heartbreaking incidents across the west with private property rights being violated. and business after business folding due to bad laws. of course some of the so called conservatives we elected, tried the go along to get along and got nothing. this is a war. and the liberals have been very good at fighting the war. but people like me are tired of having our future placed in constant jeopardy by liberal politics. i hear the anti corporate mantra and yet no one considers that corporations employ people and they are not all bad. but the most damage done by these bad policies is to the common person and family that tries to survive. i came out of the 60s and vietnam, moved to the woods to live off the land and get back to nature. and then came face to face with extreme environmental regulations and county codes. there is no compromise for me and many like me. liberal politics must be defeated so we can get our country back to the people. oh, i know there was a nominal amount of agreement about big brother violating our rights, but when you get right down to it, there isn't much of local interest that we will agree on. are you for opening up our forests for timber production? are you for radically revising the land use laws? are you for mining, ranching, farming? i've been to hundreds of forums and discussion groups over the years concerning these issues and i've sat across the table from environmentalists. and the recurring theme is always that our side compromise. well, i'm tired of compromise because we always lose. this touchy feely discussion with people trying to hold back their passion is not healthy. it's a war.

Jeff, I caught the tail end of Tuesday's program regarding the banking problem of becoming too centralized in five major banks in N.Y. But it seems to me we already have the solution in hand in the form of Rogue Federal Credit Union with other local credit unions. I'm no financial expert by any means. But I recall that during the depths of the recession -- 2008 to 2009 --, I heard an economist who was being interviewed on the PBS Newshour, saying that we wouldn't have a banking problem if people belonged to credit unions instead. I've belonged to the RFCU since 2001, when I moved here. Before that I belonged to the Boeing Employee's Credit Union (BECU) and later to McDonnell Douglas' credit union, and they're just like dealing with local banks. Perhaps people shy away from them because they're not familiar with how they operate.
