Southern Oregon Public Television offers internships to students enrolled in an accredited community college, technical school, college, or university. Internships are designed to provide students with the opportunity to gain valuable work experience and job skills applicable in public television, marketing, communications, journalism, and general business. Internships are solely for academic credit and are not paid positions.

SOPTV INTERNSHIP POLICIES

Southern Oregon Public Television offers internships to provide a variety of opportunities that give real-world application for concepts learned in the classroom. We provide a venue for students to further develop skills and to network with professionals in the television industry.

Internships are solely for academic credit, and must follow the parameters of each participating school’s internship program. Documentation of registration for college credit and a mutual agreement of anticipated work objectives and specific goals for the internship will be required, along with the name, address, phone, and e-mail address of the supervising faculty person.
Interns are expected to apply for an internship just as they would apply for an actual job.  They should supply a resume and transcripts (if requested).  An applicant’s acceptance to an internship is not guaranteed.

Time Commitment

The time commitments required for internships vary according to the terms of the internship. The intern is required to track the hours they have worked and give the timesheet to the worksite supervisor on a weekly basis.

Policies

  • No applicant or intern will be discriminated against because of race, color, religion, national origin, age, sex, or any other basis which is prohibited by applicable Federal, State, or City law.
  • All internships are unpaid positions. In order to assure compliance with the Fair Labor Standards Act:
    • The internship will be similar to the training which would be given at an educational institution.
    •  An intern may compete for employment openings at Southern Oregon Public Television, however, an intern will not be automatically entitled to employment with Southern Oregon Public Television upon completion of the internship.
  • Starting and ending dates, and expected work hours will be specified in advance for each internship.
  • Interns are expected to arrive to the work site on time based on a predetermined schedule and to perform to the best of their ability.
  • Interns shall display the utmost professionalism and comply with all workplace standards at SOPTV.
  • Southern Oregon Public Television reserves the right to terminate any internship at any time for any cause.

A meeting will be scheduled with the appropriate department supervisor to interview the internship applicant, discuss details of the internship opportunity, and determine the suitability of the proposal.
