This proposal outlines the learning objectives and expected outcomes for a Southern Oregon Public Television Video Graphics Internship. The purpose of the internship is to develop three 15-20 second station identifications to air on Southern Oregon Public Television or the graphic elements that would be used in three 15-20 second station IDs. Responsibilities of the internship will include concept creation, draft layouts, and scripting (and potentially video production.) The spots should reflect 1) the core mission of public television, 2) the broadcast coverage of the Southern Oregon Public Television stations, and 3) local and regional programming developed by Southern Oregon Public Television. Southern Oregon Public Television will have final determination on when the spots will air, and the student will be given on-air credit for their work.
Students who may be interested in this internship include those with majors/minors in: media studies, art (especially animation), graphic design, and television production.
Southern Oregon Public Television provides Public Broadcasting Service programming to Southern Oregon and Northern California and also creates quality programming of interest and value to its community. Southern Oregon Public Television is a Public Broadcasting Service (PBS) affiliate, one of 349 public television stations in the United States. This internship position is available throughout the year in 10-12 week blocks at the discretion of the worksite supervisor. The intern will need to work approximately 6 hours per week on the project using their personal or academic resources and be in communication with the worksite supervisor according to the following schedule:
By the end of the internship period, the student will have accomplished the following goals:
At the end of the internship period, the onsite supervisor will meet with the intern to review the intern’s performance and accomplishments. A written report of the intern’s performance and accomplishments will be provided to the instructor within 10 days of the end of the internship period.
