Simon was captivated by the stirring sounds of bass, alto and tenor harmonies and he incorporated these traditional sounds into his Graceland album, causing an international sensation. The album won Simon and Ladysmith recognition as leaders in world music. Mambazo represents the traditional culture of South Africa and is regarded as the country’s cultural emissary at home and around the world.
