Mill Creek Veteran’s Festival

There are dozens of Veterans living in the Prospect area who are disabled due to military service related issues. Many are on fixed incomes. When something unexpected comes up like an illness, an injury or any of the other challenges that life throws in our way, there are few resources to help them. It is especially difficult to access medical care since major issues are dealt with at distant facilities like Roseburg or Portland. When a veteran can barely pay rent or buy groceries, it’s very daunting to arrange a trip to Portland for surgery or follow-up care. The Prospect community is coming together to honor it’s veterans by putting on the First Annual Veteran’s Mill Creek Festival.

The day will start off with a ten mile “Cougar Run, Walk or Bike Race”, followed by a good old fashioned parade. The highlight of the day will be the Bed Races! Bed Race teams will consist of three to four people. Beds and teams will be decorated and dressed following a theme of their choice. One person must ride on the bed while the other teammates push the bed down Mill Creek Drive. The beds must be on wheels. There will be prizes for first, second and third place finishers and a special prize for the best theme.

There will also be a horseshoe tournament, live music inside and out, craft and food booths as well as many FREE children’s activities. Later in the day, we will be having a Flag Retirement Ceremony. This ceremony is a wonderful, dramatic way to honor our flag and all that is good about our country and the service that our veterans provide to all of us, every day.

All proceeds from events and entry fees will go toward the establishment of The Mill Creek Memorial Foundation. Donations may be made via Premier West Bank.?
