Class of 2012–13: Ashton Roxander
Dancer (Logos Charter School, Medford)
“Act IV: Basillo’s Variation” from Don Quixote Ballet by Minkus.
Season 6, Episode 3
Ashton was born in Santa Rosa, California in 1997 and began dancing in his parents’ ballet school when he was almost 3 years old. In 2006 his family moved to southern Oregon where he continued his ballet training, as well as gymnastics, tumbling, and singing. He has appeared in Studio Roxander’s productions of the Nutcracker and Surealia as well as CMTO’s production of Peter Pan, OCPA’s productions of Tom Sawyer and Oliver, and OSF’s production of the Music Man, in which he played the roll of Winthrop. As of 2011 Ashton began homeschooling so that he could pursue his dance training full time in hopes of attaining a professional career. He is now a Freshman at Logos Public Charter School.
I started ballet when I very young and hated it. Then, some 9 years later, we had guest artists come and perform with us, doing a Spring Demonstration. I quickly figured out that if you are a good dancer the girls like you! After that initial motivation dancing became much more than that. It now feels like I don’t need rewards from the outside to keep myself inspired and driven.
