I’ve always been interested in public speaking, and when my friend introduced the idea of a speech and debate club to me my sophomore year, I was thrilled to give it a chance. Since joining, I have gone to state competitions for individual speeches and placed first in debate tournaments. Before I joined speech and debate, I was extremely shy and scared to express myself, but experiences with this club and the people in it have helped me to overcome this and thrive in my high school career. Public speaking is a skill anyone can use through all areas of life, and these abilities will bring me new opportunities for growth throughout my life. While speech and debate is one of my major passions, I plan on going to Oregon State University to study zoology, and someday I hope to pursue my dream of becoming a veterinarian.
