Creating Artist Books

Participants will be introduced to new and innovative book structures – the nested accordion and the scrolling codex, (both designs developed by Peter and Donna Thomas) and students will also learn the basic bookbinding skills needed to create them.
Materials will be provided but students may want to bring special paper and their own tools. Optional materials list provided upon registration.
Advanced students will have time to put text in their books and will want to come prepared with a short 4 – 10 word quote to work with.

Friends of Hannon Library Host Paulann Petersen

The public is invited to hear Oregon Poet Laureate Paulann Petersen speak at the Friends of Hannon Library annual membership reception, May 12, 2011, 5:00 PM, in the library’s Meese Meeting Room (#305). Refreshments will be served. Following a short business meeting, Paulann Petersen will begin at 6:00 PM speaking on “What We Can Learn from Walt Whitman and Nazim Hikmet.”

Mr. Brightside and the Bonfire Nights (1)

Bert Anderson’s new play, Mr. Brightside and the Bonfire Nights, based on real events, is playing May 9 and 11, with proceeds benefitting Mediation Works, a community dispute resolution center. The play focuses on Justin Pollard, a formerly upstanding 19 year-old, who is expelled from his first year at university and sent home, and what turns him into a dangerous felon. Tickets: $15.00, students with ID $5.00; available at Paddington Station in Ashland or Grocery Outlet in Medford
