PBS KIDS GO! Young Writers Contest

PBS KIDS GO! Young Writers ContestDear Kids, Parents and Teachers:

In past years, The Annual Reading Rainbow Young Writers & Illustrators Contest has given local kids an incentive to write and illustrate their own stories and receive recognition for their work with certificates for all and prizes for top stories. You teachers and parents have been an important part of that effort by encouraging your young writers, then gathering their stories and mailing or bringing them to our office.

Well, here’s some good news: The contest is back this year under a new name, The PBS Kids Go! Writers Contest, but with the same goals for your Kindergarten through 3rd grade classrooms and homes. Unfortunately, SOPTV was not able to find funding to hold a local contest this year, but we want to encourage Southern Oregon kids to keep writing and illustrating their own stories by entering the national contest. They will, as always, each get a certificate and be eligible for national prizes. You can find the entry forms and rules for the national contest at http://pbskids.org/writerscontest/. The contest kicks off on January 27 and ends mid-March.

With new sources of funding, we hope to be back bigger and better next year with a local contest! Meanwhile, help your budding authors and illustrators keep writing and drawing.

Let us know if you plan to continue participating in the contest nationally and if there is anything we can do to help. Any questions, contact SOPTV at 541.779.0808 or 1.800.888.1847.
