Equestrian Champion (Grants Pass High School)
Season 7, Episode 8
My name is Samantha Henricks. I am 18 years old and I have been riding and showing mules since I was able to walk. My mule CR Rachel and I have won multiple buckles and medals in High School Equestrian Team (OHSET), Jackson County 4-H, Mule Shows, and Open Horse Shows. In May of 2013 I won the title of “World Champion Youth 14-17” at Bishop Mule Days on Rachel. I also just competed in Redmond, Oregon at the 2014 OHSET State Meet, where I placed 1st in Hunt Seat Equitation, 2nd in Working Pairs and 5th in Trail.
The uniqueness of riding a mule in a horse-dominated sport has definitely been an experience. Being underestimated and different is what I enjoy the most and what pushes me to succeed. Plus, all the winnings I have had is like icing on the cake. Being that this is my senior year at Grants Pass High School, my four-year career in OHSET and nine years of 4-H is coming to a close. As I leave this chapter of my life behind, the part that will forever stay with me is my passion for riding and showing mules. Thank you to my Mom, my family, and everyone else who has placed a piece in my puzzle along the way.
